GIMP 2.6

ABOUT GIMP

Introduction to GIMP GIMP is an acronym for GNU Image Manipulation Program. It is a freely distributed program for such tasks as photo retouching, image composition and image authoring.

It has many capabilities. It can be used as a simple paint program, an expert quality photo retouching program, an online batch processing system, a mass production image renderer, an image format converter, etc.

GIMP is expandable and extensible. It is designed to be augmented with plug-ins and extensions to do just about anything. The advanced scripting interface allows everything from the simplest task to the most complex image manipulation procedures to be easily scripted.

GIMP is written and developed under X11 on UNIX platforms. But basically the same code also runs on MS Windows and Mac OS X.

GIMP 2.6

FEATURE OVERVIEW

GIMP is a versatile graphics manipulation package. This page should help you get a taste of what GIMP is capable of.

Customizable Interface

Each task requires a different environment and GIMP allows you to customize the view and behavior the way you like it. Starting from the widget theme, allowing you to change colors, widget spacings and icon sizes to custom tool sets in the toolbox. The interface is modulized into so called docks, allowing you to stack them into tabs or keep them open in their own window. Pressing the tab key will toggle them hidden.

GIMP features a great fullscreen mode allowing you to not only preview your artwork but also do editing work while using the most of your screen estate.

Photo Enhancement

Numerous digital photo imperfections can be easily compensated for using GIMP. Fix perspective distortion caused by lens tilt simply choosing the corrective mode in the transform tools. Eliminate lens' barrel distortion and vignetting with a powerful filter but a simple interface.
The included channel mixer gives you the flexibility and power to get your B/W photography stand out the way you need.

Digital Retouching

GIMP is ideal for advanced photo retouching techniques. Get rid of unneeded details using the clone tool, or touch up minor details easily with the new healing tool. With the perspective clone tool, it's not difficult to clone objects with perspective in mind just as easily as with the orthogonal clone.

Hardware Support

GIMP includes a very unique support for various input devices out of the box. Pressure and tilt sensitive tablets, but also a wide range of USB or MIDI controllers. You can bind often-used actions to device events such as rotating a USB wheel or moving a MIDI controller's slider. Change the size, angle or opacity of a brush while you paint, bind your favorite scripts to buttons. Speed up your workflow! File Formats

The file format support ranges from the common likes of JPEG (JFIF), GIF, PNG, TIFF to special use formats such as the multi-resolution and multi-color-depth Windows icon files. The architecture allows to extend GIMP's format capabilities with a plug-in. You can find some rare format support in the
GIMP plugin registry.

Thanks to the transparent virtual file system, it is possible to load and save files to from remote locations using protocols such as FTP, HTTP or even SMB (MS Windows shares) and SFTP/SSH.

To save disk space, any format can be saved with an archive extension such as ZIP, GZ or BZ2 and GIMP will transparently compress the file without you needing to do any extra steps.

Supported Platforms

  • GNU/Linux (i386, PPC)
  • Microsoft Windows (XP, Vista)
  • Mac OS X
  • Sun OpenSolaris
  • FreeBSD

ORACLE and SUN Deal

About the deal between ORACLE and SUN.

1. What do you think is the effect of Oracle buying Sun?

*For me, I think there is no disadvantages on this deal between ORACLE and SUN's deal. This will be a big help not only to the two merging companies but as of all of us as well especially in the Information Technology sector. As Jonathan Schwartz Suns CEO said that “This is a fantastic day for Sun’s customers, developers, partners and employees across the globe, joining forces with the global leader in enterprise software to drive innovation and value across every aspect of the technology marketplace.” Now that sounds good.

2. What do you think would Bill Gates do about this?

*Im sure Bill Gates will be mad and disappointed for the reason he will loss some of investments. He will regret himself and some of his executives for not doing any "good" to his company. Im sure he will do something about ORACLE and SUN's deal. But despite all, he still holds the biggest company named microsoft. I think he doesn't mind this thing at all.

3. To you as a student using Java, how will this later affect your learning on the language?

*Of course, this will be a lot of help for me as a student. Actually, I recently learned this java programming thing. And as far as I have learned, it is difficult to master the program. And because of the deal between ORACLE and SUN. As I said, this deal will great for both companies and for the Information Technology Sector. And that includes me.

RAVEN RV01

This is the RAVEN RV01! The COOLEST CASE EVER!!!

NO FLOWERY WORDS!! First of all this product is COOL! Literally! First, I must inform you guys of the price of this product. It costs $229.99 or PhP 11039.52. The main purpose of this product is to organize and to relax the user of using this product.

Just look at the case?! Look at it!!
If you like the "Transformers" movie.. Then your going to like this one cuz the case looks like it came directly from the Transformers factory, and that's likely something you will either love or hate. Silverstone told us that the general feedback from customers so far is very good, and since the case is already available they apparently have sales to back up that statement.

This product features:
  • All black outer design combined with sliding front door prevents components from affecting the exterior styling of RV01.
  • Top-mounted stealth I/O ports for quick and convenient access.
  • All connectors located on top of the case.
  • Quick-release latch for fast side panel removal.
  • Equiped with SilverStone OEM Aero slots to improve graphics card cooling.
  • Top 120mm exhaust fan with reduced noise to complement overall airflow.
  • Push buttond 5.25" drive bay locks for tool-free assembly.

  • Revolutionary 90 degrees motherboard mounting enable stack effect for natural heat convection.
  • Dedicated slots and tabs for cable management.
  • Six removable hard drive trays with vibration dampening mounts and hot swap capability. (optional CP05 required for hot-swap functionality)
  • Designed for RV01's positive pressure layout, two 180mm intake fans are fitted for unprecedented cooling performance and quietness.
  • Bottom vent for optional power supply placement to isdate airflow.

As far as changing the direction the motherboard faces, the goal is simple. Silverstone wants to use a chimney stack effect where cool air comes in at the bottom and naturally flows upwards -- hot air rises. By designing a case where all of the air enters at the bottom and flows out the top, cooling should be improved and perhaps noise levels will be reduced at the same time. There are still fans to help out, but the natural airflow will hopefully reduce fan speeds. We can't actually prove that the stack effect is better or worse than other cases, since this case is only designed to work with the effect being active.
